Apartments, Apemso
The 4-level twin apartment building is a classical example of a modernist architectural style. This apartment design epitomizes simplicity, functionality, and elegance, emphasizing clean lines and open spaces. The use of natural light, minimalist decor, and innovative materials creates a serene and uncluttered living environment. This approach to design not only maximizes efficiency but also fosters a sense of tranquility and sophistication. The building consists of two blocks joined together by a stair. Each block houses four, 3-bedroom apartments, one on each floor. Both blocks were raised on stilts and the resulting sub-basement used as car parking. The concept of using simple boxes throughout whiles interplaying the sizes and depths as well as colour altogether makes the building aesthetically pleasing and looks somewhat complex yet timeless. This blends seamlessly with today’s lifestyle and still depicts the avant-garde nature of the modernist style. In a tropical climate as Ghana, the design also focused on adapting natural lighting and ventilation in the building.
